Former Governor of United Andhra Pradesh, former Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand, ND Tiwari, has passed away. Narayan Datt Tiwari breathed his last on Thursday night at a hospital in Saket, New Delhi. He was 93. He died on his 93rd birthday i.e 18 October, 2018.
Born on Oct 18, 1925 in Baluti of United Provinces in British India (now in Uttarakhand), he had contested first election in UP atfer Independence in 1952 and became MLA of Nanital from Praja Samajwadi Party. In 1957, he became the opposition leader. Later he had joined Congress in 1963. He was three-time chief minister of Uttar Pradesh and one-time CM of Uttarakhand. He is the only politician in the country who had become the Chief Minister for two different states.
He had served as Finance, Parliamentary Affairs Minister in Charan Singh government. He was in the race for Prime Minister post in 1991, however, PV Narasimha Rao was finally chosen as the PM by then Congress who led for reforms.
He was the Governor of United AP from 22nd Aug, 2007 to 26th Dec, 2009. On 27th Dec 2009, ESL Narasimhan was appointed as the Governor of AP to discharge the duties of ND Tiwari. Tiwari had fought a paternity suit and lost where he finally had accepted his biological son Rohit Shekhar as his son and Rohit's mother Ujjwala as his wife. He married Ujjwala on 14 May, 2014 at the age of 88.
