In what seems to be a bizarre incident, a marriage has been called off by a groom alleging that the bride spends most of her time chatting with friends on WhatsApp. The incident occurred in Naugaon Sadat village of Amroha district in Uttar Pradesh. According to the police, the bride and her kin were kept waiting till bridegroom and his relatives arrival at the venue, only to be told that marriage was cancelled. They cited a reason stating that the bride had been spending excessively on WhatsApp.
However, the family members of the bride alleged that the main reason for calling off marriage was dowry. The bride's father Uroj Mehandi filed a case in the local police station accusing the groom's family stating that they had demanded Rs 65 lakh as dowry.
Uroj said that the marriage has been fixed with the son of one Qamar Haidar of Fakeerpura. Uroj's relatives and friends had gathered to welcome the groom's family and members at the wedding venue. However, when they turned, Uroj was told that they were calling off the marriage. The bridegroom's family said they called off the marriage, which was scheduled to be performed on September 5, as the bride has a habit of sending messages to in-laws through WhatsApp.
