Coronavirus Pandemic: 2020 Tokyo Olympics To Be Postponed

The Olympics 2020, which was planned to be held in Tokyo this year from July 24, will be postponed, due to the Coronavirus outbreak. Though the dates of postponement are not decided yet, there are chances that the Summer Games event will be moved to 2021.

Dick Pound, International Olympic Committee member reportedly told that they are planning on postponement and a plan is underway on how to proceed. While Pound informally announced of postponement decision, International Olympics Committee vice president Anita Defrantz says she has not heard anything yet on games being postponed.

The committee executive board reportedly met on Sunday and did not rule out starting the Olympics on time but there was no discussion on canceling it completely. The countries Canada and Australia backed out from participating in the Olympics, before Pound's announcement made it to the news.

As there are many requests from the athlete training regiments and preliminary qualifying events organizers to postpone the Olympics at least for a year and also as per CDC, the large gatherings are restricted until next notice, the Olympics are likely to be postponed to 2021.
