UP Hits Jackpot! 3500 Tonne Goldmine Found

Two goldmines with approximately 3500 tonnes of gold are found in the Naxal affected area in Uttar Pradesh. This gold is five times that of the present gold reserve in the whole country, which is close to 636 tonnes.

The Uttar Pradesh government is struck by gold after two decades of search by UP Directorate of Geology and Mining along with Geological Survey of India in the Naxal affected Sonbhadra district. The massive gold deposits are expected to be put on lease for mining, according to District Mining officer KK Rai. A seven-member team has been set up for survey and auction of the block will start soon after the geotagging process is completed. The team will submit the report by the 22nd day of this month.

The Geological Survey of India first said that there are large gold deposits in Sonbhadra in 2005 and that was confirmed to be present under the mountains in 2012. The goldmines are situated in Hardi village and Sonpahadi in Mohali village of Dudhi Tehsil in the district.

The Geology official has been exploring the area for possible rare minerals like Uranium. With the gold mines being found in UP, the revenues of UP will be going high and so will be the job opportunities in these backward districts of UP.
