Padma Awards For Sushma Swaraj, Arun Jaitley & PV Sindhu

On the eve of 71st Republic day, the central government announced the names of this year's Padma Awards recipients. For their exemplary services in different fields, there were 141 recipients this time, as per the list released by the government on Saturday.

Sushma Swaraj, George Fernandes, and Arun Jaitley were posthumously awarded the nation's second-highest civilian award, Padma Vibhushan. Other notable personalities who were awarded the Padma Vibhushan are Boxer Mary Kom, Industrialist Anand Mahindra, Badminton player PV Sindhu.

Five Telugu persons were among Padma Award recipients this time and they are PV Sindhu (Padma Vibhushan - Sports), Chinnatala Venkat Reddy (Agriculture), Vijayasaradhi Sribhashyam (Literature), Yadla Gopala Rao (Arts). Dalvai Chalapathi Rao (Arts).

There are seven Padma Vibhushan, 16 Padma Bhushan and 118 Padma Shri awards, among which 34 were women.
