School divides students as per caste & religion

A new upsetting photograph from Kerala's prominent school is doing rounds on the internet. The photo shows a school's blackboard where students strength has been totalled up while dividing students into their castes accordingly. Grouping based on their castes and religion is bringing in a lot of flak among social media users.

The photograph shows 'categories' like SC (scheduled caste), OEC (Other Eligible Communities), OBC (other backward communities), General, Hindu, Muslim and Christian. It is not only upsetting but also shows how the world has stooped down to such trivial.

In details, the total number of students were written as 56 and it is of class third standard. However, the journalist, who first posted the picture thought to expose the school's name and identity. Kerala's St Teresa's lower primary school in Ernakulam has this blackboard and highlighted the caste in a regressive manner. The complaint had been made against the teacher with higher authorities at the school.

Later, the teacher who wrote on the blackboard apologised and the journalist also posted the apology letter on social media. "For official purposes, they ask for students' details many times over the year. So, to avail the data on my off days as well, I wrote that on the board. This was done only in my classroom. It was not intended to discriminate or harass students. I apologise for my mistake," the teacher wrote in her apology letter.
