4 hockey players killed in accident

Four national-level hockey players, who were heading to play at Dhyan Chand Trophy were killed in a road mishap in Hoshangabad (Madhya Pradesh) on Monday. Also, three others were severely injured and rushed to a nearby hospital.

The four hockey players were on their way to Itarsi from Hoshangabad for their hockey match for Dhyan Chand Trophy. But, in a tragic incident, they lost their lives when the car overturned after hitting a tree near Raisalpur village on National Highway 69.

The deceased players have been identified as Shahnawaz Khan from Indore, Aadarh Hardua from Itarsi, Ashish Lal from Jabalapur and Aniket from Gwalior. All the players fall under the age group of 18 to 22 years and the injured players - Shan Gladwin (Itarasi), Sahil Choure (Itarsi) and Akshay Awasthi (Gwalior) were admitted to Narmada Apna Hospital in Hoshangabad.

It is reported that the driver lost control when he was trying to avoid collision with a vehicle coming from the opposite direction. Hence, the car hit a tree and then overturned.

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Kamal Nath sent condolences to the families of the deceased. He said, "I have directed the officials concerned to extend help to families of the deceased and ensure proper medical treatment of the injured".
