PM Modi's niece attacked by theifs; snatches handbag

Two individuals were arrested on Sunday for allegedly snatching Dmyanti Modi's handbag in Delhi. Damyanti Modi is Prime Minister Narendra Modi's niece (brother Prahlad Modi's daughter) and she was attacked while getting down from an auto. Damyanti, along with her husband and two daughters were travelling from Delhi Junction Railway Staton to Del-Guj Samaj in Civil Lines at 7 pm when the incident happened.

Damyanti said, "We had just reached Gujarati Samaj and were outside the gate. We were taking out our luggage and I was still sitting inside the auto with the handbag on my lap. Suddenly two men on a scooter came from one side, snatched it and zipped away".

The handbag consists of two mobile phones, nearly Rs 60,000 cash, and Aadhaar cards, debit, credit cards. Damyanti said that she, however, don't remember the snatchers' faces or even if they wore helmets as everything happened out of nowhere.

Meanwhile, police suspect one of the snatchers to be a resident of Sardar Bazaar and another from Sultanpuri. It is also found as a part of the investigation that the culprits have gone towards Paharganj. DCP (North) Monika Bhardwaj said a case under IPC sections 356 (assault or criminal force in an attempt to commit theft) and 379 (theft) was registered at Civil Lines police station
