Even I paid fine for over speeding: Transport Minister

The new traffic rules and hefty challan amounts are growing concern among the public nowadays. Increasing fine for traffic violations can act as a deterrent only when violators are in minority. But the law should be obeyed by everyone at any cost. On this issue, Union Minister for road transport Nitin Gadkari said that he has been fined for over-speeding on the Bandra-Worli sea link in Mumbai.

In today's press conference regarding the completion of 100 days of Modi's government, Nitin Gadkari said, "People are complaining about the higher penalties, even I have been fined for over speeding on the Bandra-Worli sea link in Mumbai, as the car was registered under my name".

He told media that these new and increased fines are being implemented only for the safety of people. He said it will help in disciplined driving and reduce accident cases. He even said that the government has identified black spots on the National Highway and Rs 1,2000 crores will be spent to improve them.

The altered penalties will be applied for rash driving, driving without indicators and helmets, drunk driving and other bad behaviors.  Nitin Gadkari also praised Modi government by saying that criminalization of instant triple talaq, revocation of the provisions under Article 370 were some of the major decisions taken in the second consecutive term of Modi.
