Telugu Student Who 'Killed' 66 Computers In US Gets 1 Year Jail

A Telugu student named Vishwanath Akuthota from Chittoor district has been sentenced to 1 year jail and fined over $58,000 for 'killing' computers at his college in Albany, USA.

Vishwanath, 27, has been found guilty of intentionally destroying 66 campus computers with a 'USB Killer' earlier this year. Apart from 1 year jail, Vishwanath will also spend 1 year of supervised release.

Vishwanath allegedly destroyed 66 computers at The College of St. Rose and even video recorded himself, saying "I'm going to kill this guy", before entering a USB key into the computers, enhanced podiums and monitors.

The USB key sends commands that activate the equipment's power components that charge the power and store energy. The 'killer' then directs the infected device to rapidly charge and then discharge. This overloads the electrical system of a computer and destroys it.
