What Is This Team Selection?: Ganguly Fires

Former Captain of Indian Cricket Team and one of the senior-most cricket players, Saurav Ganguly has expressed his displeasure over the selection of Team India for the West Indies tournament.

Expressing his angst over selecting three different teams for three different formats of cricket (Tests, One Day Internationals and T20Is). He opined that the selectors are trying to make every player happy by choosing for one format or the other, but he said "it is not about making all happy, but picking the best for the country". Ganguly said the time has come for selectors to pick the same players for all the three formats of the game as it would increase the players confidence.

The former Cricket Captain said he was surprised with Shubman Gill and Ajinkya Rahane's omission from One Day International squad. Many people expressed their displeasure over the omission of Gill from the squad as the player has been in good form in the recently concluded five-match unofficial ODI series between India A and West Indies A. Gill had scored 218 runs in the series against West Indies A. In a tweet, Ganguly wrote, "There are many in the squad who can play all formats ..surprised not to see Shubman gill ..Rahane in the one-day squad".

On Sunday, India had announced the squads for the upcoming T20Is, ODIs and Test match series against West Indies. Team India chief selector MSK Prasad had announced the squads at the BCCI headquarters in Mumbai for the upcoming series in Windies. Putting all speculations to rest about India captain Virat Kohli's participation in the limited-overs series, he was chosen to lead the team in all formats.

Shikhar Dhawan, who had discontinued from World Cup after suffering from injury in his left hand, has got place for both ODIs and T20Is. MS Dhoni has been given the rest and in his place, Rishabh Pant will be keeping the wickets. Pant's name was featured in all the three formats.
