Deadline For Filing IT Returns Extended To Aug 31

The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) has extended the deadline for filing Income Tax Returns to August 31, 2019, for the assessment year 2019-20. The original deadline for taxpayers to file their returns was July 31st.

The CBDT has extended the deadline after receiving numerous complaints from taxpayers who were facing issues while filing income tax returns due to various reasons, including the extension of the due date for issue of Form 16.

Furthermore, the CBDT has also simplified the ITR-1 form to make it easier for salaried employees to e-file returns. Also, the CBDT has received several demands for an extension in filing ITR date after the delay in the issuance of TDS statement for the 2018-19 fiscal.

In June the Income Tax department had extended the deadline for employers to issue the Form 16 TDS certificate for financial year 2018-19 to its employees until July 10. This caused numerous difficulties to the taxpayers to file the returns in just 20 days.
