School Denied Sick Leave, Pregnant Teacher Dies

A 32-year-old Sudharani was a Hindi school teacher, working for the Sri Chaitanya Educational Institutions and yesterday, she bled to death during a workshop in Kurnool district. Hailing from Anantapur, Sudharani worked at the Anantapur branch of these prestigious institutions. This unfortunate incident took place when she went to attend a workshop in the school's Kurnool branch.

Coming to details, Sudharani was three months pregnant and she applied for a leave stating that she wouldn't be able to attend the workshop as she was not feeling well. But, the management had turned down her sick leave request and asked for her presence at the workshop. She was said to be threatened by the management that she would be fired from her job if she failed to attend the workshop.

With higher rates of miscarriage within 12 weeks of pregnancies, Sudharani, on the third day of the workshop, fell unconscious and bled without control. The school management is said to have taken her to the hospital but due to miscarriage, a lot of blood has been lost by then. She died within a few hours, leaving everyone in shock and outrage.

The teachers' associations and Lecturers Union protested against the school, demanding justice for Sudharani. Also, the state convenor of Teachers and lectures Union, Chand Basha claimed that the school management has secretly transported the dead body to Anantapur. Basha also questions how can management organize a workshop during the summer holidays.
