The historical novel by writer Kalki Krishnamurthy, 'Ponniyin Selvan', is written in Tamil. Ace filmmaker, Mani Ratnam will soon be seen directing a big-budget movie based on this iconic novel. The idea on making a film on Ponniyin Selvan is not new as many Tamil famous personalities like MGR, Kamal Haasan, director BharathiRaja, and a few others have thought of bringing the story on big screens.

Finally, Mani Ratnam is now on board for making a film on this novel and it is said that the makers are planning to release it in two parts. The budget is said to be expensive with a reported figure of mammoth Rs 800 to 1000 crores. Ponniyin Selvan is a dream project for Mani Ratnam and it has faced many postponements ever since 2016.

Actors like Mohan Babu, Vikram, Aishwarya Rai, Simbu, Keerthy Suresh, Jayam Ravi, and Amitabh Bachchan will be seen playing pivotal roles. Also, Anushka Shetty has been roped in for the role of Rani Poonguzhali, one of the most fascinating female characters in Ponniyan Selvan.
