Ethiopian Airlines flight crashes; 157 on board

In a major incident, Ethiopian Airlines flight ET 302 flying from Addis Ababa, the capital of Ethiopia to the capital of Kenya, Nairobi crashed minutes after take off.

According to Ethiopian Airlines statement, this Boeing 737 passenger jet, took off at 8:38 am local time, lost contact six minutes later. The statement from the airline said this flight crashed around Bishoftu, a city 50 kilometres away from the capital of Ethiopia.

Going by the airline statement, it is believed that there were 157 aboard, 149 passengers and 8 crew members. The Prime Minister of Ethiopia confirmed this mishap and expressed his condolences to the families of those lost ones.

The Ethiopia airlines have sent their staff to the accident scene assisting the emergency services. This airlines is considered one of biggest carriers of the African continent.
