A 1985-batch IAS officer from Andhra Pradesh has sealed a Lok Sabha seat in Assam and this news has been creating waves in political circles in the two states. M.G.V.K Bhanu who had served under former Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi has got the Tezpur Parliamentary ticket from the Congress Party.
During his service ever since 1985 in Assam, Bhanu had carried out several development activities and programs for Tezpur's growth. He joined the Congress last month and is said to have won praise for his work from Tarun Gogoi during his Chiefministership from 2011 to 2016. Bhanu's father, an ex-IPS officer, served as Deputy Minister of Telecommunications under P.V. Narasimha Rao's Prime Ministership in India.
It is also believed that Bhanu was considering a political plunge into the BJP. However, with TDP supporting Congress on the "Citizenship Bill" issue, it has been decided that Bhanu would go with the Congress given the anti-BJP sentiment against the "Citizenship Bill". However, BJP sources say that they have a strong based in Tezpur and hence, Bhanu's plans to win in the constituency may not materialise.
Well, whether win or lose, Bhanu's candidature and interest to contest in the North East has surely surprised many a political leaders in the Telugu states!
