Hyd: Wrong medicine kills 2 infants, 32 kids in ICU

Be it medical negligence, carelessness, or doctors being inconsiderate, the general public is pretty hesitant to go to new hospitals these days. Now, the irresponsibility of hospital staff has claimed two infants lives in Nampally urban primary health centre, in Hyderabad. Besides that, 32 children were rushed to Niloufer Hospital on emergency treatment.

The Nampally centre is said to have given the wrong medicine called tramadol instead of paracetamol after vaccination. When questioned the same, doctors said the staff mistook the similar packings of the two medicines.

The day before yesterday, nearly 92 infants were immunized with the pentavalent vaccine at the Nampally UPHC. As per the doctor, instead of paracetamol which prevents fever, children have been given a high dose of pain killer. The vaccination and pain killer together have caused an adverse reaction.

The two infants who died in this unfortunate incident were identified as Md Faizan and Md Omar. The parents of the deceased have filed a complaint against the hospital at Habeebnagar police station under section 304A. Health Minister Etela Rajender immediately reacted on the incident and said that anyone found guilty, would be immediately suspended.
