Toll plazas have become hurdles for commuters who frequently travel from one place to another. During the festival, they become nightmare by causing severe inconvenience with long traffic. To tackle this issue, The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) is mulling to come up with a new concept.
Instead of collecting money from commuters at the outlets, four or more wheeler vehicles will be installed with "On-Board Unit" which will be using 'Radio Frequency Identification' technology. So when a commuter travels from one city to another on the highways, this 'On-Board' unit takes a note of it and deducts money from the commuter's bank account.
This method is already being implemented on the Mumbai and New Delhi highway. If it turns successful, NHAI will implement it across the country and toll plazas will be closed.
Well, this looks like a revolutionary concept and will be definitely appreciated by commuters big time.
