If all goes well and the anti-BJP Front has its way in winning the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, then former BJP leader Yashwanth Sinha may be the Prime Minister of India. At least, this is what he think personally. Declaring his interest in the race for PM candidature, Yashwanth Sinha said that he is the "closest person" who can deliver on job creation, infrastructure, townships, industries and make agriculture profitable," - major problems that India is trying to solve.
With the experience of a finance minister in Vajpayee's Cabinet in the previous NDA government, Sinha is sure a potential candidate if the anti-BJP Front needs to put a face to its PM candidate. "We have to do a lot of work in this country. We will have to find somebody who is prepared to do it," he said, adding that "the closest (candidate) is me, myself."
If one considers the possibility of the anti-BJP Front, then Yashwanth Sinha throwing his hat in the ring doesn't seem wrong. Given the uncertainty that Mamatha Banerjee, Mayawati or Rahul Gandhi bring to the Front, Yashwant Sinha definitely seems like a credible face with much-needed experience. Despite his causal statement on being the "closest to a PM-candidate," Sinha might have actually come to the rescue of the anti-BJP front. We are yet to see how other allies of the Front will respond to his announcement!
