Sometimes even the biggest flops are going to bring huge profits for the producers. That is how few intelligent and sensible producers actually plan their budgets. And their marketing skills actually help the laugh all the way to the bank.
In recent times, one film that received instant whiplashes from critics and audiences alike is none other than Amir Khan's "Thugs Of Hindostan". Produced by Yash Raj Film and directed by Dhoom fame Vijay Krishna Acharya, the film turned to be a damp squib at the box office, though it collected 100 crores (share) from box office all over the world. The film is made with close to 240 crores budget. here comes to the magic, however.
While the film made only 100 crores 'share' for the producer, it got them 140 crores from digital and satellite rights. At the same time, music rights and other merchandise got them another 15 crores in the pocket. There itself the whole investment is recovered. And now, they have sold the film to China market for 110 crores, thereby adding total profit from the sales of Thugs Of Hindostan to 125+ crores.
Isn't that an extraordinary feat by Yash Raj Films to make profits even out of a flop film?
