Boxing Legend Mary Kom Scripts History

Indian boxing legend Mary Kom has scripted history. On Saturday, Mary Kom won the gold medal in the 48 kg light flyweight category at the 2018 AIBA Women's World Boxing Championships in New Delhi and became the first female boxer in the world to win six world titles.

The 35-year-old Manipuri boxer has beaten her Ukrainian opponent Hanny Okhota to clinch the 6th world gold of her career. Mary Kom has surpassed 5-time gold medalist Katie Taylor of Ireland to achieve this feat. Mary Kom is also the second boxer ever (male and female included) to win 6 gold medals, after Cuban boxer Felix Savon.

Mary Kom's historic feat has been lauded by President Ram Nath Kovind, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and several national leaders and sportspersons, including Sushil Kumar, Vijender Singh and Virender Sehwag. Mary has dedicated the gold medal to the people of India.
