Hyderabad-born Aruna Miller will be contesting the Maryland Congress seat to enter the House of Representatives in the US Congress. If elected, Aruna will create history as the second Indian-American woman to enter the House after Parimala Jayapal who had earlier won from Washington State.
53-year-old Aruna is a civil engineer by profession. She immigrated to the US in 1972 when she was 7-years-old. Aruna would be taking on David Trone of the Democratic party. The election will be held on June 26.
While Aruna has spent just about USD 1.36 million collected from contributions from her supporters, Trone, a businessman, has spent over USD 10 million, highest in the history, for their poll campaign.
Aruna is known for her great legislative skills. She was elected to the Maryland House of Delegates in 2010. A strong supporter of India-US ties and empathetic towards H-1B visa holders, Aruna has received a huge support from the Indian-Americans in Maryland and across the US.
