At least eight persons were killed and 35 others injured in 3 church explosions in Indonesia. Suspected suicide bombers, disguising as followers of the morning sermon in the churches, blew themselves up claiming lives of many during Sunday masses. The injured were rushed to the hospital and treatment is underway.
The shocking incident took place today (May 13, 2018) during congregations in three churches in Surabaya city, capital of Indonesia's East Java province. The first explosion took place at 7.15 a.m. (Jakarta time) and was followed by others with the interval time of about five minutes.
The deadly blasts took place in Santa Maria church in Ngagel Madya area, Gereja Kristen Indonesia church on Diponegoro street and Pantekosta church on Arjuno street. The police have cordoned off all the scenes for investigation.
The attackers detonated bombs inside the three churches that hit scores of followers. It is suspected that the Islamic State-inspired suicide bombers were behind this.
