In a significant development in the sensational Unnao rape incident in Uttar Pradesh, the CBI probe reportedly confirmed the rape charge against sitting BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar. The probe conducted by the national investigation agency apparently corroborated the charge that the BJP MLA raped her in his home.
The CBI probe also revealed the shocking incident of misleading the probe by the local police who allegedly kept the MLA Kuldeep and other accused out of the FIR as well as in the charge sheet. A CBI officer, on condition of anonymity, divulged that the local police had also delayed the medical examination of the rape victim.
Going into details, the victim was allegedly raped by the BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh at his home in UP's Makhi village on June 4, 2017 while the MLA's female accomplice stood guard outside the room.
Despite naming the MLA's name repeatedly, the local police who filed the FIR on June 20 allegedly kept MLA Kuldeep, his female accomplice Shashi Singh and a few other accused out of the FIR and the charge sheet that filed later. It is alleged that the local police were initially reluctant to lodge a FIR and even when they had filed the FIR they had allegedly kept MLA Kuldeep and his aides out of the FIR.
The CBI subsequently recorded the statement of the victim in front of the magistrate under the CrPc Section 164.
Meanwhile, the CBI has clarified on the media reports that the rape charge against the BJP MLA is yet to be confirmed. In an official statement, the CBI stated that the probe is going on and all those reports of the CBI confirming BJP MLA's involvement in rape is merely speculative.
On the other hand, the victim and her family are demanding a stringent action against MLA and his aides who violated the victim. The victim's family has demanded a death penalty for the MLA.
